"Who is my neighbor?" at the Lyric Theatre

On Friday, April 20, Lexingtonian John Lynner Peterson will be opening his photo exhibit, "Who is my neighbor?" at the Lyric Theatre & Cultural Arts Center on Third Street.

Peterson hopes his collection will urge viewers to "reflect on our global village."

I have been in 50 countries, producing videos and as the event producer for the 50th Anniversary of the World Council of Churches in Harare Zimbabwe and a major event for the Lutheran World Federation immediately following the handover of Hong Kong to China...

My interest - actually passion - for the global village when I left college to become a volunteer teacher. Following that stint I traveled overland across Australia, Timor, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Then from Kathmandu to London by bus. The world changed for me at that point because I saw myself in a different and fresh relationship to the global village. This collection is one way to help tell that story and challenge folks to look more closely at their neighbors, near and far!

Although a large chunk of that international experience took place quite a long time ago, my photography has continues to look for faces as symbols to communicate our common humanity.

Opening reception will be from 5 to 8 p.m.
There will be a Gallery Talk on May 6 from 2 to 4 p.m.
This exhibit will run through June 2.
